No opera company is able to break even on ticket sales alone, and CHOG is no exception. We have managed, over the years, not only to stay in the black but also to keep our ticket prices very low (student tickets in particular are extremely cheap), thanks to the financial support of companies, charitable trusts, and Cambridge Colleges. In general, however, it has become increasingly difficult to secure adequate funding from industry and commerce. In order to tackle this problem, we established a Friends and Benefactors scheme in 2002; the response from our well-wishers has been both overwhelming and heartening. Nonetheless, it is essential for each production that we obtain several substantial donations in order to break even. We are always exploring new possibilities for sponsorship, and are happy to discuss the benefits that we can offer our sponsors in return for their support.
