Over the past twenty-five years CHO has given invaluable opportunities to outstanding young singers at or near the beginning of their career. Gaining experience of singing solo operatic roles is very difficult in a highly competitive profession, and we know from their comments how grateful our singers have been for the opportunities that CHO has given them. Probably the most striking case of CHO helping a young singer onto the “first rung of the ladder” was Rosemary Joshua, who sang Rossane in Floridante in 1989, at the very beginning of her career. Rosemary is now well established in a distinguished career, and has taken leading roles in opera houses throughout the world, including Semele and Partenope at ENO in recent years.
We feel that helping an outstanding young singer in this way is very worthwhile. With this thought in mind we have created the opportunity to give direct support to the soloists in the form of contributions towards their fees. For our production of Agrippina, we are looking for several principal sponsors who are willing to contribute towards a total of £15,600, thus covering the entire cost of the fees, and giving tremendous support to the early stages of some very distinguished young singers’ careers. In return we would be happy to name a role after the donor in the programme, and can also offer opportunities to meet the young singers whom you have supported at a special event. If you would like to know anything further about our ‘Support a singer’ scheme, please contact the Company Manager.
