The Faculty of Music has recently established an ensemble of baroque instruments, the Cambridge University Collegium Musicum, which will form part of its programme of encouraging practical music-making within the University. The instruments have been commissioned from leading makers of period instruments in this country and abroad. Members of the Collegium are drawn from across the whole University and receive professional coaching in historical performing techniques. The harpsichord (made by David Rubio) is a copy of an eighteenth-century original. The leader of the orchestra for Imeneo was David Irving, a professional baroque violinist and Junior Research Fellow at Christ's College.
