Matthew Ross
Matthew Ross (chorus: tenor) read Modern and Medieval Languages at Clare College, Cambridge, where he held a choral scholarship. He has recently returned to singing after completing a Masters in Medieval Studies at University College London, where he undertook research in music of the late-medieval papal chapel. With the Choir of Clare College, Matthew has performed throughout Europe, the USA, and the Far East, under conductors including Ivor Bolton, Richard Egarr, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, René Jacobs, and Nicholas Kraemer. In summer 2006 he returned to sing the title role in Carissimi's Jepthe with Clare Choir in the Munich Opera Festival and the Innsbruck Early Music Festival. Matthew sings regularly with English Voices, most recently in performances of Handel's Solomon with René Jacobs, and a tour of Spain with the Orchestra of the Enlightenment directed by Gustav Leonhardt. He is a member of the new vocal octet Cantus Cambridge. Future plans include a production of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo (directed by René Jacobs) in the Aix-en-Provence festival, and Handel's Solomon (directed by Ivor Bolton). Matthew studies with David Lowe and Suzanne Flowers.
