Jonathan Midgley

Jonathan Midgley (chorus: bass) is in the very final stages of a PhD in Historical Linguistics at Clare College, Cambridge, specialising in Russian phonology, and is working as a Temporary Lecturer in the Department of Slavonic Studies, University of Cambridge. A founder member of Nicholas Bergström Allen's Cambridgeshire Boys' Choir, Jonathan continued his vocal training under Julian Smith at Winchester College. He sang in Clare College Choir under Timothy Brown from 1996 to 2004, touring extensively on three continents and working with internationally-renowned conductors such as Ivor Bolton, René Jacobs and Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and studying with David Lowe. He sings with English Voices and the male-voice close harmony group Cappella Artois, and has also recently performed with the Choir of London, the Illuminati Choir, and Concerto Carissimi. Recent solo engagements include a recital of music by Heinrich Ignaz Biber with David Irving (violin) and Francis Knights (continuo). A former horn player in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and erstwhile principal horn of Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra, Jonathan now plays in the experimental electronica/fusion collective Recurring.
