Cameron Lawrence

Cameron Lawrence (designer) studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he gained a BA in Theatre Design. After graduating in 1998, he was appointed design technician at the College. During his three years in the post he took exhibitions to London, Prague, and Budapest, and supervised the design for more than forty productions. At the same time he launched his own professional design career, and produced sets and costumes for various companies including Central Festival Opera, Riverside Opera, and London Opera Players. He is also the resident designer of Opera Productions.

Cameron’s opera design credits include Mozart (Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni), Handel (Giulio Cesare, Serse,Tamerlano, Imeneo), Rossini (Italian Girl in Algiers), Mascagni (Cavalleria Rusticana), and Leoncavallo (I Pagliacci).

In recent years Cameron’s work has become more diverse, spanning all areas of design. He designed the set and costumes for the premire of the new play Winter of War at the Cheltenham Everyman Theatre, did the staging for Fujitsu’s UK conference, and designed an Arthurian theme park in Snowdonia. He has also branched into TV, working for the Welsh channel S4C on the drama Cowbois ac Injans and the comedy Mawr and on various children’s programs.

Recently, Cameron has taken a break to devote time to his young son Macsen, but is pleased to have been able to design for Ariodante as well as a new production of Rossini’s La Cenerentola for Llantilio Festival.
