Andrew Radley
Andrew Radley (countertenor, Tamerlano in Tamerlano) read Music at Clare College, Cambridge, where he was a Choral Scholar. He was awarded an entrance scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, and he began his studies there in 2001. He has just completed the prestigious Royal Academy Opera Course, on which he was taught by Noelle Barker and Anthony Saunders. Between January and April 2004 Andrew participated in an Erasmus exchange at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP). Recent concert engagements include: Bernstein's Chichester Psalms at St John's, Smith Square; a recital at the Winchester Festival; Bach's B minor Mass at St Martin-in-the-Fields; a concert of Handel and Scarlatti cantatas in the London Handel Festival, with the Royal Academy of Music Period Orchestra under the direction of Laurence Cummings; Handel's Messiah with the Hereford Choral Society; Handel's Dixit Dominus at the Snape Maltings, directed by Richard Egarr (broadcast on Radio 3); Bach's St Matthew Passion with the Britten Sinfonia at Ely Cathedral; and Handel's Belshazzar, in which he sang the role of Daniel, at the Dartington International Summer School with Graham Jenkins. Among the roles that Andrew has performed on stage are: the title role in Handel's Orlando at Dartington International Summer School, under Steven Devine; and Joachim in Handel's Susanna with the Early Opera Company directed by Christian Curnyn, which toured to the Salisbury, Northampton, and Cheltenham Festivals as well as London performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Bloomsbury Theatre. Future engagements include the title role in Handel's Flavio for the Early Opera Company; David in Handel's Saul for the Chester Bach Singers; and Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice at the Spitalfields Festival.
