CHO people

The soloists in our productions include established professionals with appearances at the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North, and Glyndebourne to their credit. We also offer younger singers - music college students and recent graduates - the opportunity to gain invaluable experience on the operatic stage. Chorus members are often drawn from talented students and choral scholars at Cambridge University, many of whom aspire to performing in opera themselves.

In addition to the Stage Director, key members of the Production Team are professionals; others are drawn from a wide cross-section of the local community - students, sixth-formers, and amateurs - all of whom gain a unique insight into the world of opera by working alongside professionals. Similar opportunities are given to gifted instrumentalists, singers, and actors from the undergraduate community and local schools.

The orchestra is the Cambridge University Collegium Musicum, an ensemble established by the Faculty of Music, which performs on instruments commissioned from leading makers of period instruments in this country and abroad. The performers receive professional coaching in baroque style and technique.
